The boiler, in industry, is a machine or engineering device designed to generate steam. This steam is generated through a heat transfer at constant pressure, in which the fluid, originally in a liquid state, is heated and changes its phase to saturated steam.
The boiler is a particular case in which a set of heat exchangers is raised to high temperatures, in which a phase change occurs. In addition, it is a pressure vessel, so it is built with special steels for this function.

Boiler Room Features

According to current regulations in Spain, steam boilers must be located in a room or enclosure of certain characteristics depending on the product of the maximum service pressure and total volume.

Thus, if the product is greater than 15,000 bar-liter we would speak of second class boilers and if the product is less than this limit we would speak of first class.

Applicable regulations

The basic regulation governing the installation and maintenance of steam boilers in Spain is Royal Decree 809/2021, of September 21, which approves the Regulation of pressure equipment and its complementary technical instructions.

Within this Royal Decree, the Complementary Technical Instruction ITC EP-1, for boilers, is applicable.
